Don Russell died January 2026. The loss of such a perceptive and engaging colleague at a time when Rangifer are facing the twin threats of a warming climate and industrial development is a grievous blow but Don has left us a strong legacy. CARMA is a part of Don’s legacy: his steadying hand and far-sightedness were instrumental in building CARMA to be a collaborative and effective international network. Honouring Don’s role in CARMA and establishing a future pathway for CARMA will be the purpose of CARMA 10 to be held during the North American Caribou Workshop, 15 – 10 June, 2026 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
CARMA 10 will have a brief update on the status of wild reindeer and caribou and then with guidance of Courtney Price (executive director, Conservation of Flora and Fauna - the Biodiversity Working Group of the Arctic Council) we will map a pathway forward for CARMA.
